Of Infinite Space: Opening at photo-eye Bookstore's Project Space. Book Review Of Infinite Space Photographs by David Loughridge Reviewed by Sarah Bradley. David Loughridge, an early Meow Wolf member, passed away at age 33, leaving behind a large archive of stunning unpublished photographs. Curated to match his portfolio and printing style, Of Infinite Space brings together snapshots of daily life with family and friends, conceptual portraits, and a reproduction of “Hall of Fools,” his 2009 solo show at Meow Wolf. Why Meow Wolf Coming to Phoenix Is Worrisome. The psychedelic, Burning Man-esque vibe of the Santa Fe flagship Meow Wolf has been widely popular, seeing large attendance numbers for the small southwest mountain town. However, Meow Wolf has not been loved by all in that community. Some, myself included, have been critical of the vaguely colonial subtext that underlies its permanent installation titled the House of Eternal Return (more)
Can an Art Collective Become the Disney of the Experience Economy? Meow Wolf started as a loose group of penniless punks. Now it’s a multimillion-dollar dream factory anchoring an “immersive bazaar” in Las Vegas. (more)
Cory Doctorow: Barack Obama's turncoat antitrust enforcer is angry about the Google breakup. Exhibit A: Dave Gelfand, who served as the DoJ's antitrust boss during Obama's second term. Gelfland has spent his career rotating between BigLaw firms like Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and public service. His rap sheet includes advising T-Mobile on its acquisition of Sprint, a catastrophic merger that has since plunged the enshittification of American telecoms to new lows. Gelfand also represented Coors before the DoJ when it bought Miller, accelerating the process whereby two companies sell nearly all the beer in the world. (more)
Cat Valente: The Great Replacement (Not That One, the Real One). It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a civilization in possession of a good fortune, must replace all organic workers with AI as soon as possible, which will definitely never ever cause any problems whatsoever. (more)
Cory Doctorow on Tiktok’s enshittification. Here is how platforms die: first, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die. I call this enshittification (more)
Meow Wolf putting the bite on investors who anted up when it needed help, critics say. Nick Perry was among the 621 people who answered the call in 2017 when the Santa Fe, N.M.-based art collective took to Wefunder, a crowdfunding service. The up-and-coming art collective, now an expanding enterprise, raised $1.3 million in a little under 48 hours. (more)
Meow Wolf CEO Vince Kadlubek Steps Down – for Now. Vince Kadlubek stepped down from his role as Meow Wolf CEO on October 18; he will be replaced by a team of the company's officers, all of whom have considerable corporate experience. (more)
The Latest Denver Artist to File Suit Against Meow Wolf Speaks Out. In August, artist/activist Zoë Williams, the director of community outreach for Meow Wolf Denver, which is slated to open in 2021, filed a claim with the State of New Mexico, charging that Meow Wolf discriminates against its female and gender non-binary employees. Now Mar Williams, a narrative illustrator for Meow Wolf (and no relation to Zoë Williams), joined what has become a full-fledged lawsuit filed in District Court in Santa Fe. (more)

David Chapman: Geeks, MOPs, and sociopaths in subculture evolution. Subcultures are dead. I plan to write a full obituary soon. Subcultures were the main creative cultural force from roughly 1975 to 2000, when they stopped working. Why? (tldr: sociopaths enter the scene, monetize-better while creating-mediocrely, diluting the cool/energy; only the creator-geeks really care, because the consumer wasn't that invested anyway) (more)
Scott Alexander: Meditations on Moloch. Allen Ginsberg’s famous poem, Moloch: What sphinx of cement and aluminum bashed open their skulls and ate up their brains and imagination? (more)
Label I'm giving to a Steve Pavlina process (from ~2005) because it's the most philosophically consistent/complete version of a Top Down Self Improvement process. (more)
Zvi Mowshowitz: Covid-19 2/23/23: Your Best Possible Situation. Every week, when I set out to write the Covid update, I held out the hope that at some point, perhaps soon, you would never read one of these again. There would be nothing to report. That the reports would no longer help anyone. I could go think about and write about something else. Today is that day. (more)
